About Evil Shades
Evil Shades is an independent guide to portable and window air conditioners. We help you find a unit that fits your room, your window and your budget, and then keep it running well.
Our readers are homeowners, renters and retirees cooling a bedroom, a living room, an office or a garage. You don't need to know what BTU or SACC means before you start, because we explain it as we go.
What we cover
We cover portable units for small and large rooms, dual hose and inverter models, and portable units with heat. We also cover window units for bedrooms, quiet window units and window units that heat as well as cool.
Our sizing guides match BTU to your room. Our setup and care guides cover putting a unit in, taking it out, draining, cleaning, leaks and winter storage.
What we do
We read the product details, specs and maker information for every unit we cover. We also look at what buyers often report after a summer or two of use.
